In the Mirror

When I look in the mirror
what do I see?
A middle-aged woman
staring at me;
a smattering of grey
and a few laughter lines,
a face which has seen
better times.
But behind the eyes
is a sadness within,
the light is still shining ~
but smaller, and dim,
and the self-conscious smile
she’s hiding behind
is protecting the child
in her mind.
When You look in the mirror, Lord,
what do You see?
Looking over my shoulder,
standing next to me?
Do You see a reflection
of Your Son’s face?
Do You see through these eyes
and recognise grace?
Do You look past the wrinkles,
the few laughter lines?
Do You see me as lovely
because I am Thine?
